Muse: Alexandra Gibbs

I met Alexandra almost exactly a year ago at "Friendsgiving" at my girl, Kelley's place. I have known Alexandra's brother for about a decade, as we both played music in Phoenix, AZ back in the day. Check out his music here: Austin Gibbs. Alexandra and I hit it off instantly over lack of football-playing skills and the love of food, and the rest is history. She is a photographer, but she has this amazing, gorgeous look, so I had to ask her to be our model. She absolutely killed it! Get to know Alexandra...
Q&A With Alexandra Gibbs

You are normally on the other side of the camera; tell us how it was modeling. How did it feel?

At first, it felt so unnatural!  But after a while, I got into it.  I actually think every photographer should change rolls and be on the other side now and again.  It's helpful to know how your subjects must feel when you have your camera in their face.

Tell us about your career, what do you do?

During the week, I'm a producer at a photography studio in Manhattan.  On the weekends, I'm a freelance photographer.

Being a woman in the arts, what are some challenges you have in your industry?

Credibility.  It's challenging to find people who will trust your vision and give you that creative freedom.  That's the ultimate goal and probably the most difficult to come by.

When you’re not snapping photos, what are some of your favorite things to do in the City?

I love going to brunch on Sundays.  And since I am always running around shooting or in the office all day, I try to spend as much of my free time exploring the city.

Where is your favorite place to unwind in the City and why?

My room, because it's my safe place and so peaceful.  I also love relaxing in Central Park, because it's a little piece of quiet in the middle of the bustling city and it reminds me of when I first moved to NYC.

As a gorgeous single woman in NYC, are you looking for love? If so, where? What advice can you give to other singles living in NYC in their 20’s?

I'm actually newly single, so right now I'm just trying to let my heart heal.  I'm focusing on me for once- doing what I love and taking time to find myself again.  The only advice I feel capable of giving at the moment is to trust your gut feeling.  It's never wrong.

What advice can you give to photographers trying to get their start in their career?

Stay true to what you love, but don't be afraid to try something new and take a risk.  Keep an open mind and know that it's okay if you end up on different path.  Everything happens for a reason.

Who is your hero and why?

My mom will forever be my hero.  She has always supported my dreams, no matter how crazy they are.  She's not afraid to tell it how it is.  She has the best sense of humor and the biggest heart.

If you could visit any place, where would that be and why?

I've been dying to go to Iceland!  It looks so magical.

What do you want the world to know about Alexandra Gibbs?

{SHIT, I don't even know}
